Frequently Asked Questions regarding songwriting demos:

1. What can you do for me? -- I am a music producer and songwriter. I can take your words and music and produce hot sounding demos. I cut the music and hire singers. I can also take your words and write music to them, and cut the demo. Listen to examples here.

2. How much does it cost? -- If you need a Full Demo with music tracks and vocalist, the rate is $350 per song. I can get you your finished song in 4 to 6 weeks. Need it faster? For an additional $200 per song, I can get you a finished demo in 2 weeks. For more on pricing, click here.

3. What if I only write words? -- Great! I work with lyric writers all the time. I can take your words and create music that fits. I will then produce the tracks and hire a singer to sing on your song demo.

4. Where are you located? -- C-Sharp is a project studio based just west of downtown Minneapolis, MN. I work with people all over the USA. I have clients in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Florida, Nashville and more. We can work over the internet. Distance doesn't matter anymore.

5. How do you know what style the song should be? -- You can tell me, and I also request that you share some examples of similar songs and artists. I will follow that as a guide. You can also submit rough recordings if you have melodies and ideas in mind.

6. Do I own the song when it's done? -- Yes. The price of our full work for hire demo covers the songwriting and work-for-hire fee. You own the song and the recording when it is done. You can use the demo to pitch to labels, publishers, TV, film, etc. We also have a lower priced option where you don't spend as much, but we retain 50% ownership of the song/demo. See the rates here.

7. What do I do with my demo when it's done? -- You will be able to use the recording for a number of things. Some examples would be, sending to labels, pitching to artists, sending publishers, licensing to TV/film.

8. Are you a publisher? -- Nope. I am just a production studio. My job is to record the song. I do not assist in the promotion and marketing.

9. What is the process? -- It is quite easy. First you let me know you want me to produce for you. Then you can send me payment via PayPal. Once I received payment and your lyrics and/or rough demo ideas, then I can start working on your song. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete a demo. Sometimes less.....but 4 to 6 weeks is average. I keep you up to date on the progress as I am working. I will send you Mp3 files of the mixdown. Once it's done, I can also mail you a CD.

10. Why does it take 4 to 6 weeks? -- Well, I am a one-man show. I do all of the recording, and production. I also do not use the same music for multiple projects. This means there is creativity involved on my part...so I sometimes like to live with your song for awhile to see what direction I want to go. I am also working on multiple projects at any given time, so that takes time too. Quality takes time. For an additional $200 per song, I can move your song up the list and get it done in 2 weeks.

11. What if I want to make changes? -- Changes before the song is mixed down are fine. Usually these happen during the process. BUT if you want to make changes after I have mixed the song and sent it to you, I then charge $60 per hour to make any edits or changes.

12. Why are you only charging $350.00 when your stuff sounds so good? -- Since it is just me in my own studio, I can keep costs down, so I don't have to charge as much. The more popular my work gets, the more I may charge, so get in now! :)

13. What experience do you have? -- I have been writing songs for more than 15 years.I worked in radio for 7 years. I am a graduate of the Recording Workshop School for Recording Arts in Chillicothe, OH. I have also studied songwriting with Berklee College of Music. Songs I have written and produced have been used on radio and TV. Some networks include, MTV, CMT, NBC, HBO, Discovery, Hallmark and others. I am currently a member of the Minnesota Association of Songwriters.
